Custom Jewelry FAQ's

What is "custom" jewelry?

True custom jewelry is done from scratch, starting as an idea on paper, and then created via one of the methods above. Choosing a mounting out of a book and having a loose gemstone set into it is not custom. All aspects of custom jewelry are created to precise specifications, and no part of a custom piece will ever be mass-produced.

Why would I want a custom piece of jewelry?

Many people enjoy the creative freedom of custom work, and also the standard of quality. A piece of jewelry that is aesthetically designed for your taste, instead of mass-market budget, is generally much more painstakingly set and obsessively polished.

Does custom jewelry cost more than mass-produced jewelry?

Most often, yes. Mass produced jewelry that you may find on the internet or in local stores has been designed and produced previous to you deciding you want a piece of jewelry. Odds are that same design has been sold to many different customers. Custom jewelry is designed, planned, and created at the time you decide you want it, for you alone. This process is obviously more costly than a mass-produced piece which will sell repeatedly. Also, our custom jewelry is finished to a obsessive perfection, whereas mass-producers generally cannot afford that extra finishing touch. Our jewelry is finished so that the prongs are smooth and strong, to not catch on clothing and to keep your jewels safe. Your choice of finish (high-polish, satin, sand-blast) is applied by hand, with the highest degree of scrutiny.

How long does the custom jewelry process take?

It depends. The techniques above have differences in length of time necessary to complete designs. Rush projects can sometimes be accommodated, please call for details. We have completed designs within a weeks time in emergency situations.

Can I bring in my own stones or old jewelry for you to use in my design?

Absolutely! We specialize in using groups of old jewelry that you do not wear and turning them into one spectacular piece that you will cherish for a lifetime.

Why is is the pricing that you give called a "quote"?

We "quote" out jobs instead of giving a firm price because costs on an industry level are currently very volatile. We will always give you a range of price so you know how much the price could fluctuate, so there are never any surprises.

How do we get started?

Please come in to our store and sit down with a member of our staff. Bring in pictures or sketches of your idea, or pictures of styles that you like. We will work together in creating the perfect custom jewelry piece. Upon your decision to work with us on a design, a deposit is taken. Deposits are generally 20% down, 50% at wax/CAD design approval, and 100% at pickup.

Don't worry your e-mail address will not be sold or given to any other company.
